Leadership Development: Effective and Easy Performance Reviews
This is the third in the series of videos in our Leadership Development Experiment. This one is focused on accomplishing Performance Evaluations, Assessments, Appraisals or Reviews easily and effectively. It focuses on bringing out the best in the employee, while making it easy for you to do.
Our perspective is that if Performance Appraisals are easy AND effective, you’ll do them more often – resulting in even more performance improvement.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video, I think the Steo-by-Step process used in performance reviews can be adapted in other situations where you have to encourage people to take action or do something differently. The first praise what the person is doing right and then suggest what they could do better is simply brilliant. I love the psychological impact of this and brilliant NLP discipline. I can’t wait to see and hear about the other videos in the Leadership collection. Thank you very much Ed.

Great video. It’s amazing how such simple unthreatening questions can have such great unintended consequences

Hi Ed and team,
Thank you so much for the short videos. The leadership advice has been extremely helpful to me as a leader. Regarding the video on Performance Appraisals, I took copious notes on the 4-step process and am planning to put it into play in the near future. I agree 100% with the idea that you must first acknowledge what the reivewee is already doing well. It would also be helpful if you could expand on the guidance around working the manager’s suggestions for improvement into the 4-step process. Thank you very much!

Since my first training from enlightened leadership, I have found them to be genuine and insightful! I have always appreciated your efforts to share the wisdom and knowledge.
Going into performance review time and this short video was a structured refresher for reviewing staff who have been with our organization for a long time. Thank you.

Excellent video. It would be so helpful if all organizations were aware of these techniques and implemented them. Employment culture in America would certainly change for the better if this were the case. Thanks.

Francois, I’ve personally never seen a situation where absolutely nothing is working. The key is to search for something you can acknowledge. If you cannot shift your mindset to see something positive, you don’t have a prayer of a chance of getting someone to shift their behaviors. On the other hand, if you can acknowledge them sincerely for things you appreciate, you’ll be amazed at how open they become for doing things better or differently. The key is whether you can sincerely make this shift. Good luck.

Thank you, Beth. I completely agree. That’s why we’re working so hard to make this video and 86 others like it available to English-speaking people everywhere. I appreciate your comment. It’s much encouraging.

This video could not have come at a better time. Our team has been struggling with quality assurance processes and this four step process is just what the doctor ordered. I am looking forward to the positive impact it will make. Thanks EL team for making these available.
