Ed Oakley Making Managers Into Leaders

One Response to “Leadership Development: A Perspective on Leadership Styles”

I have enjoyed all of the videos, however this video resonated for me more than any of the others. I think that an administrative manager in an academic setting absolutely must be comfortable with and build strenghth in both approaches Ed has outlined here. When working with my staff I can move back and forth between asking and telling. However when working with faculty, the telling strategy seldom works and I must manage upward using influence and more frequently by asking what I can do to help and support their efforts.
